Environmental Management
At TITAN SHARRCEM, environmental protection is central to our sustainable business model. We continuously strive to optimize operations and reduce impacts on water, energy, waste, and emissions.
Our decarbonization plan aligns with the TITAN Group’s carbon reduction roadmap, and we enhance performance through robust management systems, stakeholder engagement, and transparent monitoring.
We are proud to be the first company in Kosovo to obtain the IPPC permit from the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, demonstrating our leadership, commitment to regulatory compliance, and transparency. In addition, our operations are certified to ISO 14001 (environmental management) and ISO 50001 (energy management) standards, reflecting internationally recognized practices for sustainability and energy efficiency.
Environmental Policy
Our Environmental Policy outlines the company’s commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
Key highlights include a focus on circular economy practices to minimize waste and reduce air emissions, creating an environmentally responsible culture among employees and contractors, engaging with stakeholders for collaborative actions, and complying with strict governance and reporting obligations.
The policy emphasizes measures such as air emission control, noise management, land stewardship, effective monitoring of water resources, and soil protection. Additionally, the company prioritizes stakeholder engagement, and transparency in its environmental management approach.
Constantly monitoring our air emissions
We invest in the best available techniques to reduce emissions at our sites. TITAN SHARRCEM maintains its commitment to continuous environmental monitoring through its established Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS), operational since 2013. In line with the sectoral (GCCA) commitments, we continuously monitor major potential pollutants like dust, NOx and SOx, while other pollutants are monitored using periodic spot measurements.
Preserving natural resources
Biodiversity is an important prerequisite for sustainable development and, as such, it is a priority for TITAN.
We therefore undertake targeted actions to protect the ecosystems in the locations where we operate, as well as in surrounding areas where endangered or protected flora and fauna species can be found. According to the biodiversity assessment conducted by TITAN, TITAN SHARRCEM’s operations are not located within, containing, or adjacent to areas of high biodiversity value.
Water Management
At TITAN SHARRCEM, efficient water management is another key priority. Through our Water Management System, we monitor supply and discharge processes, assign clear responsibilities, and promote efficient use of resources. Recent investments in recycling systems, upgraded networks, and new flow meters have improved monitoring and reporting, leading to an approximate 50% reduction in water consumption compared to the previous year.
Since 2016, our Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) has been operating continuously, with quarterly monitoring by accredited laboratories. The quality of discharged water consistently meets the limits set by Administrative Instruction AI-02/2022.
Supporting the Circular Economy
At TITAN SHARRCEM, we understand the importance of leveraging secondary raw materials such as fly ash, bottom ash, and pyrite ash. Since 2011, we have consistently invested in partnerships with third-party facilities to ensure maximum utilization of these resources.
Part of our decarbonization plan, aligned with TITAN Group, is also the advancement of our efforts to partially substitute fossil fuels with alternative fuels in our production processes. This initiative aims to utilize Alternative Fuels derived from municipal, commercial, and industrial waste as a sustainable energy source, significantly reducing our carbon footprint. Beyond environmental benefits, this transition supports the circular economy and creates meaningful social value for our community.
